International Baccalaureate Diploma
Windermere St Anne’s School is now authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma as the key curriculum offering for Sixth Form students from September 2007.
The International Baccalaureate is recognized as the “gold standard” examination system at 6th Form level with a curriculum that encourages students of a wide range of ability levels to be active learners, well-rounded individuals and engaged world citizens. Founded in 1968, the IB programme operates in 1,722 schools in 122 countries, and is now highly regarded by universities and employers worldwide.
Head, Allan Graham comments, “The ethos of the International Baccalaureate is central to the reasons why we have chosen this new route. Windermere St Anne’s is a member of Round Square - a world-wide association of more than 50 schools on five continents sharing unique and ambitious goals. Students attending Round Square schools make a strong commitment, beyond academic excellence, to personal development and responsibility. This is achieved by participating in community service, work projects, exchange programmes and adventure, which can, and often does, take students half way around the world. The core of the IB Diploma Programme encompasses many of these projects, making the curriculum ideal for our school. It has the added benefit of having no outside interference from any government – and so is based on quality rather than party politics”.
“The inspiring location and facilities offered at Windermere St Anne’s provide an ideal learning environment for children." Our sailing centre, location in the Lake District National Park, and team of dedicated teachers make WSA a truly individual school. The unique combination of these attributes with the leading curriculum and examination system at 6th Form level will be extremely compelling.

Introducing the all new, 'Venture Baccalaureate'
Introducing the all-new Venture Baccalaureate – a unique outdoor-activity-based programme of study for Sixth Form students, pioneered exclusively by WSA and offering a practical pathway to an internationally recognised, International Baccalaureate (IB) – endorsed qualification.
WSA School in Windermere, The Lake District, will begin a new course of study for practically minded Sixth Form students this September called the Venture Baccalaureate. The carefully balanced curriculum is designed to provide practically minded students with the opportunity to further their academic studies, while becoming proficient in their chosen outdoor activities. For many students, the Venture Baccalaureate in fact offers the best of all possible worlds: the academic elements of the IB combined with the physical and mental challenges of the great outdoors – and coupled with the unique opportunity of participating in international and national service projects with partner schools all over the world.
The campus at WSA School is perfectly placed to the practical study of outdoor pursuits, surrounded by a rugged natural landscape and with the school’s own fully accredited RYA, BCU and AALA accredited training water sports centre at nearby Hodge Howe.
Students are prepared directly for active employment or Higher Education, and on successful completion of the course, will leave WSA with a BTEC National Certificate in Outdoor Education and an ICCP Certificate (International Certificate of Career Related Education), fully endorsed by the IB Organisation.
WSA is the only school in the country that will offer the programme and numbers are limited so if this unique course of study sounds interesting to you, contact Admissions now on 015394 46164 or email admissions@wsaschool.com.|
