Careers Support
Students have easy access to a wealth of advice and support when planning for life beyond WSA. We aim to provide each young person with as much information as practicable to help to clarify the options available to them at the end of their course of study.
To this end, a structured programme of talks from professionals, careers conventions and university visits is supplemented by a dedicated careers section in the Resource Centre and the biennial WSA Careers Conference. Preparation for Oxbridge entry is conducted by the Heads of Faculty.
Work experience is considered a vital component of Sixth Form study and an essential part of preparation for the next step. Students are encouraged - with the help and support of the Careers Department - to research and engage in relevant work placements.
Students also have unlimited access to a fully equipped and resourced careers library offering:
- A range of CD ROMs on many careers
- TV and video for viewing career and university videos
- A library of university prospectuses, updated each year
- A good selection of books on a large variety of careers, updated and maintained each year
- A large number of resources available to help plan Gap Years
Sixth Form students receive two lessons per week consisting of the following, plus much more:
- Creating a personal Action Plan for their future
- Guest speakers on careers and Higher Education
- Opportunity to attend individual subject courses
- University visits attended by the school and individuals
- Attendance at Higher Education fairs
- Work experience placements
- Training in interview techniques
- Personal development strategies
- Transferable skill building
- Oxbridge preparation
- Individual interviews
- Presentations on all aspects of UCAS application
