Dance and Drama
Dance
Dance is an established activity that benefits from an excellent purpose built studio and from the high level of expertise offered by our dance teachers, who are specifically employed to meet the required range of disciplines and levels of expertise of our pupils.
All grades of ballet instruction and different levels of tap and jazz dance are classes, currently on offer to the pupils and in which they can be prepared for the appropriate examinations.
The pupils are given the opportunity to perform in shows and there is a wealth of volunteers and expertise readily available to choreograph routine for the annual school musical production.
To enrich the programme and diversify the pupils interests occasional 'Dance Weekends' are arranged. Visiting teachers come and offer specific classes in different disciplines: most recently a West Musical weekend was much enjoyed and not too long ago Break Dancing attracted many to come and have a go.
Such is the passion and commitment of the dancers that they are able to transfer their skills and choreograph routines, which are a much appreciated part of the student-led yearly Performing Arts Competition.
Drama
Drama is a popular subject in the curriculum and class initiated projects can lead to internal performances of a high calibre that are enjoyed by the rest of the school and prepares our actors for the grander and more public performances staged by the school.
Every year the Drama and Music department combine forces to produce a major musical which is performed to public audiences in December. The Spring Term offers the opportunity for student led in the Inter House Performing Arts Competition in early February and the term ends with the more serious senior drama production. In the summer term the attention is turned towards the junior end of the school and they are given their chance to perform.
Speech and Drama Lessons
Individual and small group speech and Drama lessons are available to students at an extra cost and many of our students do take this opportunity and successfully achieve high grades in their examinations.
Theatre Visits
Visits to theatres both near and far are arranged to enrich the programme by offering enjoyment, whilst enriching the vision of the students. This year's musical cast journeyed to London to see 'Les Miserables' on stage prior to their own performance, returning determined and inspired. The result was outstanding.
Technical Crew
In addition to this our performing arts are backed by an able group of students who prefer to work out of the limelight. Stage lighting is an option open to our older pupils and they are given the necessary instruction and likewise teams involved in prop production and back stage management.
