Friends of WSA

On entering WSA you will become a “ Friend” and hopefully be able to join in their social and fund raising events.

The Friends  have a 25 year history and we have,  in school grandchildren of one of the original founders.  At that time,  day pupils were introduced and local parents wanted to become more informed and involved in their children’s daily school life. The first fund raining event  was to collect newspaper for resale and the money went towards buying sewing machines for the girls.

We have come a long way with many changes since then. Our present committee comprises 8 members who meet each half term.  All committee members are current parents of children in both Elleray and Browhead. We firmly believe in the school, and want to help and support our children and their teachers.

We have a yearly program of social and fundraising events.  The funds raised go to buying extras for our children. Last year we bought sofas for both boys and girls boarding halls and outside play equipment for the nursery at Elleray. We are at present raising money for playing field lights, a new mini bus and new boats.

During our time on the committee we have tried successfully to involve more people, including staff, pupils and parents in all aspects of the work of the Friends. Pupils from Elleray made a presentation to the committee with requests for equipement as did the older pupile from Browhead and we have seen our numbers steadily increase at our social events.

We also now have Class Co ordinators, a named parent for each form who is a good contact particularly for parents and children new to the school.

Perhaps you would like to consider becoming a committee member or offering your help at events. Do you have a special talent or lots of useful connections which might help with fund raisers and if so please get in touch with a committee member through the school reception.
