Tiger Kloof, South Africa

Tiger Kloof School in South Africa is a fellow Round Square member school and one WSA has had a close relationship with now for over 4 years. Based in Vryburg near the Botswana boarder, the school is home to African children from a variety of backgrounds.

Student's at WSA have a unique opportunity every February half term to apply to take part in one of our International Community Service projects based at Tiger Kloof School, an experience never forgotten!

Every year the physical projects are different, ranging from building a vegetable garden or an environmental center, painting playgrounds or building a pool wall. These can take part at Tiger Kloof School, but also at the two key centers we work with, Thusanang Nursery for Disabled students and the ABC Clinic for abandoned or abused children.

The Thusanang Nursery is for students aged between 1 and 30 years of age with sever disabilities who come from the local Huhuidi shantytown in Vyrburg.

Each year, WSA students organise and participate in a number of fundraising activities to raise money for the Thusanang Nursery, and that money is then taken out with the group in February and put to practical use for whatever is necessary.

We also work closely with the staff of the ABC Clinic, providing much needed love, games and cuddles to the children there who have either lost both parents to HIV or have been abandoned. This is a heartbreaking experience that will change students lives forever.

A new project we are starting to get involved in now is working with a local feeding center. This is a place over one hundred children from the local shantytown dawn on once a week for a good hearty meal, perhaps the only one they will get until the following week. We have recently raised over £2,000 which we hope to put to good use during our trip in 2008 making more regular food available for these children.
