Boarding

There is a strong boarding tradition at Windermere St Anne's School that benefits the whole school community, with boarding available for pupils from eight years old.

We aim to provide a safe and caring extended family environment where boarding pupils can flourish academically, socially and personally. We give our students the life skills and experiences necessary for adulthood.

Full boarding and weekly boarding options are available, and where possible we will try to accommodate flexi boarding arrangements to suit individual needs. The School also has a large number of day pupils, who integrate well with our boarding pupils and are encouraged to take part in evening and weekend activities.

From 8-16 years, girls and boys board in single sex boarding houses, under the supervision of a Housemaster or Housemistress, supported by their assistant and academic tutors. The Deputy Head (Pastoral), Miss Parry, oversees all boarders in her role as Head of Boarding.

Girls board in well-furnished dormitories in the main school house called Browhead. In Year 10 and 11 pupils are given more privacy in single or double study bedrooms. There are common rooms and kitchens also available to the girls. A homely feel exists in the house which is under the care of the Housemistress, Mrs Joyner and her assistant Miss Benn.

Boys board in Langdale House, a purpose built boarding house which opened in September 2001. Under the supervision of Housemaster Mr Morris and his assistant Mrs McNamara, the boys benefit from excellent boarding facilities, senior and junior common rooms, small kitchens to prepare snacks and one of the best views in England, over Windermere and the Lake District fells.

Senior students (17+ years) board in Westmorland House, which is mixed. Students live in university style flats in single sex groups of five, under the Housemaster and Head of Sixth Form.
