ICT

Overview

Our network has been expanding almost daily. We now have two large teaching rooms, one ICT lab in the Science block, smaller computer rooms within the Boarding Houses, and a growing administration network. All workstations operate on Windows XP with MS-Office 2000 being the main application suite, with our severs being a mix of Windows Server 2003 and Linux.

The current big project is the investment in our network infrastructure. This involves linking all the main buildings with fibre-optic cable, and providing wireless access to the network in all teaching and learning areas. We are also intending to install a link between Browhead and Elleray.  This work is due for completion in the Summer of 2008.

Academic
ICT remains compulsory at KS3. In year 10 pupils can choose to do the GCSE in ICT.

All pupils are expected to be fully 'Computer literate' by the end of their studies at WSA, and it is a popular subject. Those who do not opt to study ICT in the senior school are expected to integrate ICT into each of their subjects.

Other
Various administration systems have been developed however this is soon to be replaced with a whole school database management system.  Again, this is due for installation in August 2008, ready for the next academic year.
