Business Studies
Academic Structure
The department offers both AS and A2 courses in Business Studies for Years 12 and 13. For students at Windermere St Anne's this is a new subject in the Sixth Form as it is not studied at GCSE.
It is expected that students would have demonstrated both numeric and communication skills to Grade C at GCSE in Mathematics and English.
There are currently 7 Year 13 students taking A2 and 16 Year 12 students taking AS Level with a view to completing A2.
Teaching
Although classroom based, all students are expected to make full use of the School and their own ICT facilities when undertaking their own research.
Independent learning is encouraged and it is expected that pupils will not only have an interest in business matters but will also keep abreast of current economic affairs by reading a quality newspaper and watching relevant documentary videos provided by the department. Besides textbooks written by the Chief Examiner, students are also given a subscription to Business Review.
Additional information
Business Studies is a versatile and relevant subject that combines well with both arts and science subjects.
Students are encouraged to debate topical issues that have a business slant and those that choose to join the school's Young Enterprise Scheme also get a chance to put into practice the concepts they have learned in lessons.
The Department also organises trips to student conferences and local businesses when appropriate.
