Hodge Howe Sailing Centre

Our School is lucky enough to offer its own watersports centre, Hodge Howe, which is located right on the shores of Windermere.  Pupils use our Watersports Centre, during the summer term and first half of the autumn term. It provides a wide range of opportunities for pupils during the school's timetabled curriculum and as part of the extra curricular activity programme in the evening and at weekends.

The centre has accreditation from the British Canoeing Union and the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority, as well as being a Royal Yachting Association Teaching Centre.

The programme is overseen by the Director of Activities, and led by the Principal Instructor who is employed full time by the School.

Other part time specialist instructors and suitably qualified academic members of staff also provide tuition.

The Watersports Centre has a pavilion with changing and teaching facilities, wet and dry boathouses, a sheltered harbour and beach landing area.

The centre is well equipped with toppers, lasers, wayfarers, canoes and kayaks as well as wetsuits and spray-tops for pupils to use. There is capacity for operating four groups at any particular time. Two groups work from the boathouse area and two further groups are accommodated from the beach. Staff operate with a maximum of six pupils per group for teaching sailing and a maximum of eight for teaching kayaks or expert level groups.
