Academic Ethos
It is about the Individual
The individual is key at WSA; we value each member of our community and expect everyone to make a positive contribution. This included our academic life, students of all abilities are expected to work hard and achieve their potential.
It is about Adding Value
Each child of course has innate ability. We feel at WSA that it is our role to add value to that. By using the Durham University CEM data for every child in the school we can indicate what their innate ability should allow them to achieve in each area of the curriculum. Together we then aim for value added grades.
It is about working together
Students with their Form Tutors and subject teachers create targets each term to allow them to move forward, these targets, alongside a high expectation have meant that we gain mahy value added grades for the majority of our pupils. Parental involvement is key to our success and by regular and honest communication we work together to achieve the best.
It is about honesty
As we value each member of our community, their results and achievements are important to us. We never as a school, withdraw children from examine subjects if we feel they may not achieve a pass grade. Honesty about our results is what we truly believe in.
