Elleray Day Nursery and Preparatory School is located in the most idyllic setting, high above Windermere, on the wooded slopes overlooking the lake. The views are simply magnificent and the children are allowed every opportunity to enjoy and explore the grounds in a secure, exciting and beautiful environment.

Children from the South Lakes have been educated at Elleray for over a century, together with boarders who join us from all over the world. Our boys and girls are aged from 2 to 11 years (Year 6), and we pride ourselves on treating each and every child as an individual. Their aspirations, hopes, needs, interests and potential are at the very heart of our educational process.

We seek to inspire the children in everything they do. We want them to enjoy every minute at school and to build a desire to pursue and achieve excellence with the aim to develop confident, freethinking and ambitious individuals.

The children are provided with many avenues of learning, notably from their academic studies but also from a wide range of extra-curricular activities. We also encourage pupils to be involved in the management and organisation of the school, giving them a chance to assume responsibility and make decisions, in a friendly environment. We believe that it is by taking advantage of these opportunities that each child can find his or her own area of expertise and meet with success. In this way, the confidence of the child grows so that bigger challenges can be met in the future.

We believe that the school blends the very best of the traditions of a Preparatory School with the most modern educational techniques and practises. Standards of behaviour at our school, and mutual respect, are just as important as the very high academic standards to which we aspire.

Our aim is to ensure that the vast majority of children transfer smoothly to our senior school at the age of 11.
