Key Stage Two (7-11 years)
The broad curriculum offered at Elleray reflects the belief that children should be challenged academically, creatively and physically, encouraging inspired and well-rounded individuals.
Recognition that learning through discovery and the development of key skills such as communication, teamwork, presentation and good manners are as important as subject content and underpin the way the curriculum is designed.
At Elleray the day always begins with English and Mathematics. Being an independent school, we have designed a curriculum that utilises the best resources and schemes that are available and relevant, combined with excellent teaching practice. In Years 3 to 6 the following appear on the timetable over the course of each week:
- Science
- Adventure!
- Art
- Design & Technology
- Drama
- French
- Geography
- History
- Information & Communication Technology
- Music
- Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)
- PE
- Religious Education
Teaching is differentiated to ensure all children are accessing the curriculum and are able to reach their potential. The progress of all pupils is tracked using a variety of schemes and systems. We also keep a register of children that are gifted and talented, ensuring that all staff are aware of their specific needs and generating resources and organising events that ensure these children also reach their potential.
Elleray children benefit enormously from the school's impressive outdoor facilities. Twenty acres of fully-enclosed unspoilt woodland offer children a unique chance to experience nature on a grand scale safely and securely. There are year-round opportunities for exploration and investigation, expeditions which go on to inspire nature-based projects and one-off studies.
